This is a fast motion video I prepared to show how I made my satirical illustration “Walls”! If you’ve got questions just ask via comments!
✨✨ The first OltrEconomia Festival illustrated political satire contest is officially open!! ✨✨
The theme of the contest – and of the Festival, in Trento from 30th May to 2nd June 2019 – is “Lands of Disobedience”, that is lands – real or metaphorical – where civil disobedience takes place. Here’s the LINK: https://oltreconomia.info/contest/
✨ I had the pleasure, yesterday in Revò, to get on stage and talk about what I think it’s important a just-turned-18 keeps in mind, a bit about ethics and a bit about myself as a political cartoonist ✨
And I have to say I feel a bit better about the future, now! Apart from the fact that these dudes don’t smell and don’t look like a homeless scarecrow – like I did at their age – they also got some self confidence and were able to cope with a number of questions I posed them, giving some really interesting answers.
Well, what I can say to sum it up is that they have no idea what ‘Beverly Hills 90210’ is – finally we’re starting to forget Donna Summer! – that they think ‘Crystal Ball’ “was” a thing – sad face – and most importantly they, for example, think there’s not enough engagement among younsters. Some read newspapers, some online, some in paper. One of them told me that immigration will bring more people to meet – definitely a good attitude.
Then there was a guy that was unbelievably happy with everything! Lucky him! And another that told me for his 18th birthday he didn’t get drunk. I don’t believe you, man. I don’t believe you! Actually I didn’t either 😉
The first number of my newsletter ‘Satire Digest – Digest Satire’ is ready and flying towards its subscribers! 📧
You’re not one of them?? I envy you, pal, as the first time is never forgotten ❤️ You can read the #1 of my newsletter clicking on the image below, and immediately subscribe to it, not to lose any of the next!
✨ I am one of the winners of the contest for stories that make the difference ‘Strike 2018’ – whose final I took part into yesterday! ✨
It’s been an amazing experience, for so many reasons it’s hard to squeeze them up in a single post without being prolix. Suffices to say I got the chance to reflect on myself, on my personal story – how I became a cartoonist – confronting it with 9 other incredible stories, told by excellent and energetic storytellers. Everyone was amazing – the organization, the participants, the public – and I’ve got the sensation this contest will live a long and exciting life!
Here’s the video of the awards ceremony!
Libex Awards 2018, 2nd Prize
I have been awarded with the second prize at the political cartoons contest Libex 2018. The contest, featuring more than 250 cartoonists, for a total of 560 cartoons submitted, was held by the Librexpression Centre, an international organization for freedom of expression.
The award ceremony took place in Conversano, during the Lector in Fabula festival, a 3-day event dedicated to information, democracy and debates on political issues.
The cartoon with which I won the second prize
Two of my drawings have been admitted to the final stage of the Inktspotprijs 2018, the award held by Stichting Pers & Prent that selects the best Dutch cartoon of the year.
